The map of Central America is quite strange because it is the thin strip of land that joins the North and South American continents. It starts with Mexico in the north and consists of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, where it is so slender, they built the Panama Canal which links the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean. Central American travel is limited because several countries, despite their beauty, are considered too dangerous for regular tourists.
That said, Belize and Costa Rica are prominent on the tourist agenda, particularly when it comes to eco-tourism. The rain forests of Costa Rica are some of the richest on the planet for bio diversity and despite being National Parks you will find some of the best Central American hotels there. Many of the young take a Central American flight to visit Jaco and other local beaches where the surfing is great and you can find cheap Central American hotels.
Belize is the only English speaking country in the Americas because it was once a British colony. It has the biggest barrier reef in the world, after Australia so scuba diving is a popular past time. It is also rich in history having a large number of Mayan sites.
Panama is Central America because of its famous canal which link the two great oceans, this means it has beaches on both sides. One is more tranquil and suited to snorkeling and scuba diving whilst the other is great place for surfing. Panama also has dense jungle, so dense that the Pan American Highway cannot get through, but there are nation parks where you can see Panamas' diverse wildlife.
Central America may have small countries but they have lots to do and see.
